Social Media Marketing: The Basics

Managing your social media accounts can sometimes feel overwhelming. It can be challenging keeping up with the latest trends and being consistent with posting fresh new content. There are many steps you can put in place to feel more in control of your online presence and more importantly, actions you can take to make sure your content is being seen.

Make sure you're utilising the business profile option

If you haven't set up your social media accounts yet, when you do, make sure you're using the business profile option. If you're already on social media, it's easy to switch an account from personal to business. Business profiles allow you to use insights and analytics which are vital to social media marketing.

Use insights and analytics

Once you have been active on your business account for a little while, you will be able to make use of the insights and analytics the business profiles have to offer. They will allow you to see who your target audience is, which of your posts perform well, when is best to post and more.

Be consistent

One of the biggest tips for social media marketing is being consistent with what you post and when you post it. This doesn't mean you have to post every single day, maybe just a couple of times a week. The key is keeping up with posting regularly and scheduling tools can be a great help with this. They allow you to create a social calendar, plan ahead and they also have analytics and insights.

Create a content library

Gathering high quality images, videos and visuals and creating a backlog of content will take the pressure off when it comes to what to post. If you struggle to gather unique content, think about running a competition or a hashtag campaign where your customers can share their photos which you can repost.

Interact with your audience

Replying to and liking comments, sharing customer stories and regularly following new accounts will allow you to build relationships with your clients. This will mean you're building quality followers who are excited to see and share your new content.

Use calls to action

When composing a caption for your post, it should be inspiring, insightful, relatable and thought-provoking. The caption should also include calls to action. An example would be 'click the link in our bio to find out more'. Always make sure the reader has a clear and concise idea of what you want them to do next.

Monitor your competition

Finding out who your competitors are, what they do on socials and what works for them may help to influence you with your direction. Perhaps you want to go in a completely different direction and try something new. Or maybe you want to join the movement and jump onto the latest trend. Monitoring your competition can be a great way to ensure you're not falling behind.

Use the search tools

Struggling to find out whats on trend? Using the search tools, keywords and hashtags will allow you to check out the latest thing that's going viral. Join the movement by using hashtags in your captions and comments.

Run competitions and share promo codes

Finally, a great way to get your content shared across the web is to encourage your fan base to share your posts. Running a competition is a great way to achieve this. Sharing promotional offers and codes can also be a great way to attract social media users to your website. Just don't forget those calls to action!
